The Audi GT50 Concept was created as an extraordinary project celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Audi five-cylinder engine. The vehicle was developed by 14 apprentices at Audi’s Neckarsulm site, who transformed a production Audi RS 3 Sedan into a unique one-off within approximately six months.
In terms of design, the GT50 draws inspiration from Audi’s legendary racing cars of the late 1980s, particularly the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO and the Audi 200 quattro Trans- Am. Its striking bodywork, featuring angular surfaces, widened wheel arches, and characteristic turbofan wheels, deliberately echoes the styling language of these iconic race cars. At the same time, the concept does not forgo modern technology. The specially developed body consists of only six large glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) components, all of which were designed, manufactured, and painted by the apprentices themselves. Even the roof section was redesigned, visually referencing Audi models of the 1980s.
Beneath the spectacular bodywork lies the latest evolution of Audi’s legendary five-cylinder engine. The turbocharged 2.5-liter inline engine with direct fuel injection produces 294 kW (400 hp) and develops a maximum torque of 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).
The interior of the GT50 was also consistently focused on motorsport. A custom-built roll cage, window nets, and numerous bespoke details emphasize the character of a modern racing car while showcasing the apprentices’ craftsmanship and technical expertise.
The Audi GT50 Concept is not intended for series production. As a unique concept vehicle, it symbolizes half a century of Audi five-cylinder technology and serves as a special anniversary gift to Audi enthusiasts around the world.
