Pikes Peak – since 1916, this 4,301 metre high mountain in the US state of Colorado has been the venue for what is probably the most famous hill climb in America. Spectators on the Pikes Peak got to see the first Audi in action in 1984, when Michèle Mouton took victory in the rally car class at the wheel of the short-wheelbase Audi Sport quattro.
In the years that followed, Audi added its name to the list of overall winners three times in succession with victories in 1985, 1986 and 1987. What's more, the mountain was conquered in a new record time on each occasion:
